Co-dependency is a
dysfunctional pattern of living and problem solving that is developed at any early age. These patterns of behaviors are often adapted as a
means of coping in families experiencing a great deal of emotional pain and stress.
As adults, co-dependent individuals have
a tendency to get involved with people that may be unreliable, emotionally unavailable or
extremely needy. In such relationships, the
co-dependent person attempts to provide and control all aspects of the relationship.
Symptoms of co-dependency include:
 | controlling behavior,

 | distrust,
|
 | perfectionism,
|
 | avoidance of feelings,
|
 | intimacy problems,
|
 | physical illness related to stress, and
a
|
 | heighten awareness of potential threats
and dangers.
