Although the term addiction is most commonly associated with alcohol and drug use/abuse, there are many other forms of addictions. 

An addiction is a mental and, in some situations, a physical disorder, that is characterized by the repetition of behaviors that one fails to have the ability to control.

Addictions can be developed in many areas, however some of the more common include:  alcohol, drugs, gambling, pornography, food, work, shopping, and sex. 

Most often people who truly have an addiction are unable to stop the undesired behavior alone and without support and professional intervention.
